The University of Skovde, a state university in Skovde city of Sweden was granted university status in 1983 and has now the status of an academic institution with general and specialised educational programmes in Business, Health, Biomedicine and Computer game design.

With the lofty ideal of making a difference locally, nationally as well as internationally, Skovde University [SKU] has been ranked 7th in Sweden by the Swedish Higher Education Authority.

The research wing of the University that operates through 4 schools, viz. Bioscience, Business, Health and Education, Engineering Science and Informatics, receives 66% of its funding from KK-stiftelsen (The Knowledge Foundation), the EU, the Region Västra Götaland and a few private companies. Of these areas of research, the Systems Biology, Information Technology and Virtual Engineering form an entity called INFINIT [INnovation-driven Research in INdustrisamverkan with the support of IT]. INFINIT’s vision of Digitalization for sustainable development is the driving force behind all the research projects of the University. Internationally recognised research in information technology helps to create a complete research and education environment that contributes to the development of a competitive industry. The SKU researchers proactively collaborate with the stakeholder community.

Synergising the six active research groups of artificial intelligence, cognitive/interactive systems, distributed real-time systems, information systems, software systems and media, technology and culture into a single multi-disciplinary research unity integrates the whole gamut of the University’s research.

SKU’s research in digital health [DHEAR] is an endearing effort to make everyday digitalisation safe and sustainable for everybody in the society, to overcome the ever increasing challenges of the virtual world and to enhance the human interaction with the digital solutions, in short making the society a good place to live in.

The multi-faceted cross-disciplinary programs prime the students to the needs of the industries in the vicinity. Gothia Science Park (GSP), a business incubator and talent factory is housed within the SKU Research Centre and it provides lab and office facilities for companies with similar foci. It provides an active communication platform and encourages active interaction between the Industry and the academia.

The university has approximately 9, 000 students in 50 undergraduate and 10 graduate programmes.
