University West

University West [UW] is a university college in the city of Trollhattan, in southwestern Sweden, a 35-minute train ride from Gothenburg. The city of Trollhatten is home to high tech industries like GKN Aerospace and the Chinese NEVS, which has enabled the University to come up with its innovative ‘Work integrated learning’ concept in all spheres of their study.

University West strikes a good balance in collaborating between education and work life, while at all times keeping focus on the student learning. This philosophy is ingrained in the university work ethics as ‘Work integrated learning (WIL)’. Government of Sweden has contracted UW to develop processes that influence theory and practice relevant to WIL, and the University has come up with Co-op, which enshrines these principles by dotting studies with periods of paid work.

The University’s Vision is to generate, develop and disseminate academic knowledge, ability and understanding that is relevant to society, through its research and education. The University’s course offerings have made this their way of life, by providing the students strong fundamentals and making them critical, able, democratic, loyal, tolerant, active and independent.

University West offers doctoral and licentiate degrees in Production engineering, Informatics with a specialisation in ‘work integrated learning’ (WIL) and Education Studies with a specialisation in ‘work integrated learning’ (WIL)

UW’s efforts at building long-term relationships with international students in Sweden is reflected in Global Swede, an alumni network of outstanding students who help creating cross-border and multicultural environment in the University campus, in turn contributing to Swedish foreign trade and promoting the work on reaching future solutions.

University West has CANVAS, a pedagogical tool to run its courses, and is an online information kiosk for the student community, like ‘All you want to know’.
