Hanken School of Economics

Hanken School of Economics is a century old business school, established in 1909. Located in Helsinki the capital of Finland, Hanken is an exclusive business school, having its 2nd campus in Vaasa. Hanken School of Economics is profiled as a genuinely international and research-oriented business school with close ties to the corporate world. Hanken holds all three of the most prestigious international accreditations, EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA, which only 1% of business schools in the world have.

Hanken's research and teaching is organized into four departments, viz. Accounting and Commercial Law, Finance and Economics, Management and Organisation and Marketing. The 5th one is a Centre for Languages and Business Communication.

Hanken offers domestically popular undergraduate programme in Swedish language, whereas all its Master’s and Doctorate programs are in English. All their courses are distributed between the 2 campuses. Hanken PhD Programme comprises four years of full-time studies, during which the students are expected to produce a doctoral thesis and complete 60 ECTS of course work.

Hanken also offers an internationally accredited 2-year Executive MBA programme (EMBA) under 3 different streams, viz. Finance, International Management, and Service and Relationship Marketing. The study modules help the students enhance their decision-making and leadership skills.

Hanken has partnered with as many as 120 universities for student exchange and sends 250 students every year for atleast 1 semester, or in a few cases a full academic year abroad, while it receives about 150 exchange students.

Board of Hanken has prioritised 4 ‘Areas of Strength’ where the research conducted is of an internationally competitive level, Competition Economics and Service Strategy, Financial Management, Accounting, and Governance, Responsible Organising and Leading for Growth and Wellbeing for a period of 5 years from 2019-2023.
