University of Padua

The University of Padua located in Padua in Veneto region of northern Italy was founded in 1222 and is the second-oldest university in Italy and the world's fifth-oldest surviving university. The university had approximately 65,000 students.

The University of Padua has been consistently ranked as the ‘best university’ among Italian institutions of higher education. ARWU ranks the University as a 201-300 world’s best universities in 2019. The 2020 Times Higher Education World University Rankings lists the university at the fourth. Internationally, the 2020 Times Higher Education World University Rankings places the university in the 201–250 rank. The University of Padua is ranked the world's 116th and 48th in Europe in the 2020 rankings of World’s Best Global Universities rankings.

The full study courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as the short specialisation degrees and doctoral programmes are all held in English. International and Italian students have a choice of studying in one or more of these courses.

Degrees completely held in English are the Erasmus Mundus Joint programmes at Master level (2nd cycle), where students are required to attend modules in at least two Higher Education institutions in two different countries. At the end of the course, successful students are awarded double, multiple or joint degrees. The University of Padova coordinates the STeDe project - Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree in Sustainable Territorial Development.

The University of Padua offers 39 separate PhD Programmes, taking about 400 to 500 new candidates every year, with approximately 1400 PhD candidates enrolled in the three-year degree programme. The eligibility criteria for admission to PhD programs are the mandatory possession of a 2nd cycle degree (laurea magistrale or laurea magistrale a ciclo unico and qualifying in the entrance examination.
