SCOULA POLITECNIC DESIGN - SPD

The Scuola Politecnica di Design (SPD) founded in 1954 is the first postgraduate training school in Milan, a bustling metropolis in Italy’s northern Lombard region which is also the global capital of fashion and design. The Polytechnic caters to the uncommon area of design and visual communication, an area that boasts of only a few universities.

Academics

SDP’s design curriculum is one of the most ideological and pragmatic one, the best in the industry. The courses are intensely driven by its endeavour to provide practical exposure and hands-on experience to the students. Scoula Polytechnic is a place where young minds explore their creativity and showcase it to the world.

Scoula Polytechnic has more than 200 students and offers multiple programs in the areas of design and visual communication. It includes yearly master’s in industrial design, interior design, transportation and car design, visual design, Web Design and Multimedia.

Teaching is organized in intensive workshops, labs, theoretical study, seminars and activities in the field, culminating in professional internship.

Scuola Politecnica di Design offers master’s courses in Transportation and Car Design, Interior design, Industrial Design, Web and Digital Design and Visual Design. The other courses are Food and Mid Interior. SDP’s focus has always been on modern-day art and designing that is important to remain in sync with emerging technologies. All the aspects of the design are covered from visuals to concept designing.

Collaborations

SDP’s collaborations with reputed brands of local as well as international fame has enriched its education in the technical know-how, through its internship and placement opportunities. The Scuola Politecnica di Design is a member of the well-known Italian design associations like ADI Associazione Disegno Industriale, AIAP (Associazione Italiana Progettisti Grafici) and ASFOR (Associazione Italiana per la Formazione Manageriale). SPD is also member of the Cumulus academic network.

The master’s courses offered by SPD are organized in collaboration with IULM University and it awards academic degree certificates recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research MIUR and the relevant credits under the ECTS system.

The college campus has a lot of amenities for the students, which include high-end technology-fitted workshops, computer labs, cafeteria, studios, exhibition spaces, which are built by the industry leaders and are the source of learning and innovation for the students.

Rankings and Certifications

In 2009 SPD was certified as UNI EN ISO 9001:2008 compliant. The Scuola Politecnica di Design is officially acknowledged as learning institution by the regional government of Lombardy.

SD has held exhibitions in Venice Biennale exhibition in 1986, in Carrousel du Louvre and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. SDP was awarded a gold medal at the Tenth Milan Triennal Exhibition. Compasso d'Oro assigned by the Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (Industrial Design Association, ADI) in 1994. SDP has to its credit Smau Industrial Design’s Award on 2 separate occasions.
