The Florence Institute Of Design International [Fidi]
FIDI is an International school of design located in the city of Florence, which has a rich cultural heritage and is known as international crossroad for designers. FIDI sits cosily between two breath-taking Baroque palaces, Palazzo Marescialla and Palazzo Fossombroni.
Academics
The building housing the school of design is embellished with high arches, rich murals and exquisite ceilings, making it an elegant heritage structure. The classrooms in contrast present a modern learning technology, driven by high-speed fibre-optic networks, equipped with flat screen monitors and computers loaded with sophisticated software for the study of design.
FIDI which started in 2008 with specialised programs in Interior design and Graphic Design, offers all its courses in English, making it an attractive option for international students. The school offers diplomas, Bachelor’s and master’s programs in graphic design, architecture, furniture design and interior design in collaboration with the University of Chester. All courses are so designed as to give the students a detailed understanding of Italy's rich culture.
As in the physical structure equipped with modern technological infrastructure, the curriculum too is no less modern, designed for diverse set of students keeping the contemporary developments in view. The class sizes are small, giving the faculty an opportunity to focus intensively on their students, with a personalised touch. FIDI students are given stimulating design problems that are commonly faced in Italy’s modern society. Italian language and Art History are part of each student’s education.
Thus, enriched with history of Italian art, culture and design, FIDI provides its students a unique learning experience. FIDI’s programs are curated to nurture the creativity of its students in bringing out innovative professionals. In tandem with the modern approaches and concepts, FIDI customises its programs based on the principles of classic Italian design and Renaissance theories, giving its students a rich feel of the Italian culture with learning activities marching out of the classrooms on to the history-ridden streets, cathedrals and museums of the city.
In short, FIDI combines tradition with modernity, heritage with technology to give its students a deep understanding of the Italian creative process.
FIDI also offers short summer courses in Graphic design, architecture, digital illustrations and furniture design.
