Dalarna University
Dalarna University has its campuses in the 2 neighbouring towns of Falun and Borlange cities of Dalarna county in central Sweden, 200 kilometres north-west of Stockholm. It is a more recent institution of higher education, established in 1977.
The Dalarna University is rich with international research milieu. The Swedish National Agency for Higher Education declared the DU as a Deemed University eligible to offer PhD program n Microdata Analysis. Today, DU attracts students from the world over, with their propensity to work closely with the local business and industry, which helps the student community by enhancing their life skills so very essential for their careers. The regional Industries provide guest lecturers and ample field-work scope for the DU students. They also generate employment for researchers and provide enough ground for the doctoral students to complete their project and thesis work. Being in the vicinity of industrial houses, DU provides the students an excellent opportunity to network, collaborate and synergise with the business community, which in turn broadens their perspectives in career and life as a whole. This close collaboration with the business sector ensures that the programs offered at the University are always in tune with contemporary developments in the allied fields, thus always retaining or refreshing their quality. As a matter of fact, it is this collaboration which has provided the University a future direction and a basis for their vision of Life-Long Learning.
The DU runs schools of Technology and Business Studies, Education, Health and Social Studies and the school of Humanities and Media Studies. DU has a student strength of 14109 with 479 faculty members.
Dalarna University has to its credit the 11 most influential researchers in the field of competitive sustainability, as awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA). This has paved the way for the Research Council of Norway to award DU a project entitled Sustainable Arctic Cruise Communities: from Practice to Governance. DU has also a Grant from the KK-Stiftelsen (Knowledege Foundation) to establish the research school "Future-Proof Cities" that will focus on sustainable urban development
