Boras University
The University of Boras is a modern university college in the city of Boras, very strategically located between Stockholm and Gothenburg. The University’s location makes it attractive for new investments every year. Today, Boras is home to nearly 11, 500 companies.
The University founded in 1977 has three faculties, viz. Faculty of Textiles, Engineering and Business, Faculty of Caring Science, Work Life and Social Welfare and Faculty of Librarianship, Information, Education and IT and offers courses and study programmes in Library and Information Science, Business and Informatics, Fashion and Textile Studies, Behavioural and Education Sciences, Engineering and Health Sciences. Boras University has around 13 000 students and 730 faculty members.
Many of the study programmes offered here are unique to this University; hence it attracts students from all over the country. The University is well-known for the unique degree programmes offered by the School of Textiles. Boras University is acclaimed as a Centre of Excellence for performing research in textile technology and design.
Boras University’s research program encompasses six areas, viz. business and IT, Human Perspective in Care, Library and Information Science, Swedish Centre for Resource Recovery, Teacher Education and Education Work and Textiles and Fashion. The crowning glory of the University is the grant of doctoral degrees in Resource Recovery by the Swedish Higher Education Authority in 2010, vis-à-vis their research into the conversion of waste to energy at the Swedish Centre for Resource Recovery. The seeds sown in 2010 have flowered into an established doctoral education and research program, accepting over 50 doctoral students today. Apart from Resource Recovery, the University is allowed to award doctoral degrees in Library and Information Science and The Human Perspective in Care and Textiles and Fashion.
Boras University offers education and research of highest international quality and social relevance, no wonder it is called ‘Science for the professions’, which is all-pervasive in the entire gamut of activities in the university.
The very fact that the city of Boras is the Swedish centre for textiles and clothing companies, makes it a haven for nearly 1500 import and export companies. Presence of well-known companies like Ericsson, Volvo Bus Corporation, Parker Hannifin and H&M in and around Boras, has paved the way for establishing many mail order and e-commerce companies.
The European University Association, EUA supports the higher education in 46 countries and Boras University is one among them. EUA provides a unique communication platform where the member countries keep abreast of the contemporary policies and trends in higher education and research.
